Identify these tracks (possibly zombies)

I came across this set of tracks the other day while out with the dogs - any clues??

First I saw this:

Then this. Harris and the other dogs were pretty interested in it, wonder if they were fresh? The tracks in the slush/ice were iced over so must have at least been there a day or so.

Was something being dragged? Was it an animal with a bum leg that was dragging it? Was it a zombie, dragging its foot as it stumbled towards my cabin??

It was in the trees for a bit too...

And descended down from the little treed area back to the river. There was no blood around so I doubt it was a kill. So weird!

Otter tracks -- they slide on their bellies!

Interesting theory, but there is NO open water around here!

Otters often travel miles from open water! Once you see them in action you will get it -- Google "otter tracks snow".

I have been a trapper since 1981

ah ok, it is the one thing that makes sense! Haven't seen it before, pretty cool though. I guess there also might be open water around here somewhere - old beaver dams and stuff. Thanks for the info!

Come on, it was Santa dragging his pack towards your house but when he saw how little you'd blogged this year he gave up. We forgive you though.

@rr - haha, yes I'm sure it was Santa! That was a tiny little pack of his though...
