We could break trails allllll year! Just think of the awesome trail system we'd have if the snow NEVER melted!!???? We would all be awesome skiers/skijorers/mushers, and if I never have to see another open lake or river, I could live with that. Although that would make for a tough go of the Yukon River Quest this year.
So we headed out to scout out new trails, and re-pack the newer trails from last weekend. I love doing this on skis, even though you move at a snails pace, I find I don't sink in too much and the skis float on the snow pretty nicely.
And of course, the BIGGEST reason to get out is these guys:
My trail-breaking dog train. See they kind of ARE good for something. The slacker sled dogs get to roam free and keep me entertained.
POUNCE!!!
At a mere 90-some lbs, the big guy can still get airborne!
They are great for breaking trail...
...when they go in the right direction! You can see here they pick the easiest trail for DOGS, not humans. I keep telling them I don't go UNDER trees, but they don't seem to care so much.
Uh oh! Dog jam in behind me! I guess I was going to slow. After this they started crawling through my legs to pass me, ha

Harris leads them back. Note Kuna with a chunk of snow in his mouth? Actually it's a chunk of snow/poop! Ew. And then he runs up to me and gives me a BIG lick on the face, yum!

Jack LOVES breaking trail, he was constantly in lead with the lazy buggers behind him.

Harris ponders the meaning of life. Or snow. Or nothing. Maybe he's just posing.
And the end result:

Yay, a new loop on my existing trails!!! It's probably only .2km long but oh well. By spring I might have a whole extra kilometre!!!

Oh, no fair!!!! It was 67F/19C here today. My new dog (retired sled dog) just arrived from Alaska and is wondering what sort of crazy place she landed in! I mean, people were wearing shorts and bicycling today, and that is just crazy weather for us this time of the year. **Please** can we have just a little of your snow???
I'm in, -10C would be perfect, with a regular snowfall weekly to keep things clean but not having to break trail every day.
Granted I'd miss cycling.
I'm with ya!
But I want spring so I can play with my quad!
I'm in, but I'd like a bit colder. My trails are busier than yours. -15 keeps the idiots who can't control their loose dogs at home!
Love the pouncing picture! That's a happy dog!
-10 to -20 all year + snow= heaven, I'm in!! Where do I vote?
I certainly vote YES so the snow stays with you and doesn't come to CO! Stacie - you're a good influence (or bad...)- my last post includes pics of a Dog.
I see that I'm going to have to make a circuit and slap some sense into all of you!! COME ON SUMMER!! I'm tired of shoveling - I want to bake like a lizard on a rock :)
I know you know this but....YOU NEED HELP! snow all year? what the hell would I do with all my fly fishing gear? invest in a new power auger?...maybe it is not all bad then. Nice pics of the dog train.
Ok, so *most* people are with me, the rest of you need some help! (Dave, *ahem* for a musher, you're putting us to shame!!!)
Murray - baking like a lizard in the sun is not good for you, being pasty white is!!! :)
Meg - it's easy, you need to move!
Barb - great to hear I'm a GOOD influence. :)
i love to visit your site .. one day i will be a trupper for some weeks .. and my dog stays with me
darnit, Stace! That does it! We're moving up there!!! You have room for 11 itty bitty critters and their crazy Mom, dontcha? :D
I am SOOOOOO jealous!!!!! Give everyone a squish-loooove the leaping picture :)
