Happy Halloween!!

Just so happens, that yes, Sasquatch DOES exist. In our hotel room. In Fairbanks. See below:

Sasquatch? A rabid scrawny moose?!? Or... a bit too much beer, Laura's imagination (or lack thereof), her beaver mitts, and a wild n' crazy Sat. night hepped up on wayyyy too much dog talk!!??! You decide!

(Why, yes! That IS a beaver mitt on her head!)
*************************************************

Since I'm still recovering from the marathon drive - that seemed like it would never end - from Fairbanks, here's a few quick pics of the bestest part of the trip....

MY NEW SLED!!

Yes, that is my new Danler sled on top of Laura's truck parked outside of the hotel. Need a closer look you say?

"Ooooh.... Ahhhhhh...."

Ok, not really a "new" sled - it's an older Danler model, as they are mostly fancy little foldable, titanium/fiberglass/kryptonite sleds that weigh 14 ounces and cost a crapload of money nowadays - but I like the old style (and old style price). You can see the lovely woodwork, but I've now made the switch to aluminum runners. Woohoo.

But the bottom line is, is that it weighs a mere 18lbs! Wow. I LOVE not throwing my back out by putting the sled on the truck!

Oh, and it is a sled with some "issues" - I guess I like my sleds like I like my dogs. Hmmm... I should really look into that.

Anyways, the previous owners drove into the garage with this poor little sled on top of their car. Whupps! But, don't worry little sled, I'LL take care of you from now on... you're safe here in this garage-less home.

18 lbs... you're gonna fly now. Careful the first time or two out.

Sled looks very nice!

And one of these days I promise to get your named spelled wright. Crap. Sorry.

Wow! You know I gotta comment on new gear: looks like the smartcar version to your old SUV style one--nice.

Personally, I blame archaeology for the back issues... already rearing it's ugly head I'm not even out of nursing school! I'm sure the mega-sled doesn't help the back. I love dirt, but I'm glad not to be digging it up anymore.

Anyways, enjoy the sled. Are you in cowtown for Christmas? Leah and I are there 23rd-4th. Care for a night of swilling beer (like I need to ask...)?

Fancy! I get it gets great mileage.

Susan - I hear ya! I'll be hanging on for dear life, and heading out with a mellow, slacker team at first.

Kristi - I'm just happy you're not calling me "Casey" or "Tracey" - common annoyances of mine! :)

Jen - great comparison! I am much happier not slinging buckets of dirt around nowadays as well. But... I guess, buckets of dog food, poo, bales of straw, etc... are just fine!

Cowtown - no go at xmas this year - I like the visits during non-chaotic times! And wow, sure you can spare a whole TWO days there?!

Michael - great mileage I bet! I tried it out in the parking lot and slid forever. Sweet.

You and Nanuq coming out to the races on the Copper Haul Road Nov. 18th??

I will have to post some before photos of this thing - before I overhaul this badboy.

You know, that's not such a bad idea! Nanuq's used to pulling loads at a walking pace, but maybe if he sees other dogs running, he'll catch on!

Can you e-mail me the details?mlmv

Darn it, I can't stand it when I type the "Word Verification" letters in my comment.

LOL Michael - I thought that was some type of secret code! Only I totally didn't get it.

Sure - will send details. You can also check out the link on my blog to the Copper Haul Twister. There is a one-dog 5km run where pet dogs and/or dogs who are new to this all are welcome! Or... if you and Nanuq are feeling particularly enthusiastic - try the 12-mile skijor! :)

They were pretty good, except Kuna had ripped the post he was tied to out of the ground and was running around for a day with the chain attached to him! He was fine, and pretty happy with himself actually.

The rest were all good, very happy to see their human of course. But then again, they're like that when I leave for 10 minutes! Dogs just have NO concept of time.

Loki was extra friendly and he even came up within 3 inches of Stephanie when she was feeding them. That's pretty great for him! I thought he might be weirded out with strangers and act weird when I got home like last time I was away, but he was a happy, curious Loki who wants to sniff me sneakily every chance he gets.

Ooh! And I saw a Loki-lookalike rescue dog up there. SOOO hard not to grab him and stuff him in my jacket! He did get adopted though. Yay!
