Here's a video from the start of our 7-mile run. Me and 12/13 dogs. In order:
Ripper and Loki (who both led the whole way) - good job guys!
Ivy Octane
Sage and Lucy
Rupert and Kate (hyper, hyper! No wonder they're related)
Gracie and George - no idea why Gracie is SITTING!!? Oh yes, she's weird.
And Jack and Harris pull up the rear as they show their bouncing abilities. Kuna is attached back there too.
Enjoy!

So, I'd like to thank whoever nominated this silly little blog for THREE Canadian Blog Awards. How cool is that?!? I'm still wounded by the last round of blog awards where the hunting blog beat me out... but I'll get over it. We made a good run, and I'm sure my promise of beer to many voters could be considered "buying votes" - but hey, I do what it takes. All is fair in love and blog awards...
Check out the nominees: http://www.myblahg.com/cba/2006nominations.html - lots of good stuff there!
Apparently I'm nominated for:
1) Best New Blog (though this doesn't feel to "new")
2)Best Personal Blog
3) Best Sports Blog
So, get out and vote and check out the other blogs - I'm sure you're all not wasting near enough time on the internet! :)
Here's a few shots from a run the other day - I took the whole danged yard out (except for Gabe). 12 dogs plus the extra (Kuna) and it was, as to be expected, WILD at the beginning. I was going to videotape the start, but my quad started hopping forward as I was hooking up the dogs. Sure, it was tied to a tree and the brakes were all locked, but that always gets my heart pumping into overdrive.
Jack and Harris did a great job leading the crew

Ahhh... good times...

Woohoo! You've got to win this year!! mmm...beeer...that's a good idea...beer for votes :)
I can't believe you take all 12 out...always impressed. How'd Kate do? How far did you guys go? Must have been so fun!!
Love the pictures always :)
p.s. i'm always looking to see what the spotted guppies are up to now...they are so cute, sage and ivy. good little calves :)
Hey Sue! Kate was great the other day - we only did maybe 5 miles max. She's still the noisiest in the yard as I'm getting everything ready and they know what's going on. She was even biting and pulling the FENCE with her mouth she was so excited!!! Whatta nutter.
The "spotted guppis" (lol!) were pretty good as well - Ivy can sometimes be spotty, but she did a great job. I think she likes being up front. Sage does well anywhere. And Kate was kind of giving Loki a rough time. I had misjudged the amount of dogs, and had to run someone with her - so it ended up being Loki. And every once in a while, she'd lean over and give him a little growl - poor guy! That was just at the beginning though when their energy is crazy, so much that they don't know what to do with it! It didn't bother him *too* much, but I don't like any dog having to put up with a cranky, bossy dog beside them!
love that last photo...the setting sun on the mountain tops....very cool!!
congrats on the nomination.....does one vote get one lead dog ale?
flurries in your forcast for friday...but guess what.....it's the forcast for here too!!!
all the way in peterborough, ontario
ellen
Congratulations!
So Stacie...I have a question...have you ever heard of someone running a sled or dryland rig with a solid type of set up? I'm thinking a long pole that attaches to the rig with cross pieces that the dogs attach to with their harnesses. That way I can run the ones who don't get along without worrying about fights? I haven't put enough time into "line out" to keep the lead dog (The Monkey) out in front keeping the lines taught. Also, b/c we have more people here (=more loose dogs), my dream rig would have some sort of big wire cage around each dog so that we can't get attacked by loose dogs. Hehehe...maybe I should just set up a bunch of big hamster balls that are somehow attached to a rig! Oh to live where there are less peeps...
Anyway, what do you think about that? Ever seen it? Think it's possible? I have lots of ideas of how I'd engineer such a little Dog Mobile....maybe I could get a grant to create an alternative transportation model ;)
Sue
CONGRATULATIONS!
Ellen - snow? Feels more like a late summer here lately. I am NOT ready for snow yet! Though I do want to get skiing...
Lead Dog Ale - sure thing! Just have to come back here for it... :)
Sue - that is an interesting idea. Hmm... you know, they do have small snow hooks where you can anchor the leaders down. Good for those leaders who like to "visit" - if you attach it (or any line) to the gangline somehow behind the leaders, then it's easier on the leaders as well - when the maniacs behind are thrashing about. Less stressed leaders = more peaceful run. So they say.
You'd be surprised though, how loose dogs are kind of freaked out by a whole whack of dogs in a team. Like the pit-bull guy who thought twice about attacking us - or maybe I sent some "don't touch MY *$&^ dogs!!" vibes??
Can't say I've ever seen what you describe - though the hamster thingy sounds cool! I want pics! :)
critical canadian blog award coreection has been made: you did'nt qualify for "new" blog...
SO
Your in BEST BLOG! Yay ::cue parade and marching band::
Haha those boys bouncing in the back made me laugh. more, more, more!
sean
oh.my.god!!! I LOOOOOVE that video!!! I sent the link to lots of peeps to view :) I love how they suddenly quiet down once the business of running is at hand...I love your crew!!!!
Wow - my very own Secret Admirerer...hmmm... well, thanks! And I wouldn't happen to be up against YOU in the blog awards am I? :)
Turbo - yeah, those two are hilarious with their bouncing. Not only do they bounce, they mock-attack each other every 5 seconds in between the bouncing. That's up next for video of the week.
But for some reason, the yahoos kind of calmed down when I walked down the line that day. I think they were being on their best behaviour for the camera! Hence, Gracie SITTING!?? I still can't get over that one.
Sue - glad you liked, once again. It ain't hard to please you! You should have seen our run last night!! OOH!!! Same team, but it was as it was getting dark out... they were so crazy and it was chilly out - I don't know what happened, but the whole team (INCLUDING slacker-Gracie) pulled and sped along the whole way! And then there was loose Kuna leaping into the dark bushes, freaking me out every 5 minutes, wondering what the heck he was chasing!
Hahahaha! You are SO much braver with your dogs that I am...I'd be panicked that they'd get in a massive dog-fight ball that would roll off into the distance with me yelling in vain, helplessly trying to keep up :)
I love your crazy dog world...it's so cool that it works and that they have so much fun and that they bark like crazy and pull like crazy. What a lucky crew of monsters :)
Ha - "massive dog-fight ball" - I'm pretty sure I've seen my crew get into a couple of those... ;)
It is a crazy dog world we live in... but never boring!!
Your dogs are CRAZY.
Wild blog, I love it.
